London Branch Football Team -
Report to AGM 2009
The Branch
football team completed the 2008/09 APFSCIL Division 2 season.
Finishing once again in 3rd position for the third year running.
Another fine season with some great performances and results.
The highlight and performance of the season would have been the
lads hammering the top two clubs Blackpool 7-0 and Brighton 2-0
during the season, plus were very unlucky to lose 2-1 deep into
injury time to Brighton in a double header match against them
at the end of May, though this particular game is one of
many matches throughout the season that APFSCIL
are looking into and the result may yet be awarded to
the lads instead. Though this will have no bearing on the lads
final position in Division 2.
The team will again start the 2009/10
APFSCIL season on September 13th 2009. Continuing to play at
the Met Police Peel Centre, Aerodrome Road, NW9 5JE. Some 500 yards from Colindale
Tube Station (Northern Line). The team is always on the look
out for new players, and has had some success over the
pre-season matches in finding some new SAFC fans in
London to bolster
the squad. Plus friends of the squad who are willing to
help out and join the Branch.
I would like to thank last seasons team
captain Mark Stewart for his efforts and help over the last few
seasons. Mark has decided to semi retire due to work and minor
injuries at the age of 46 years young. He is probably one of
the fittest players in the team still to date and I believe he
will be doing the Great North Run once again this year.
Hopefully he will be able to assist in our title and cup
challenge as much as possible.
On the injuries front the lads have suffered
some set backs. Tony Jones has fractured a finger in the 4-3
pre-season win over Woodlands Utd of Watford. Dan Minhinnett
has damaged some ligaments in his knee whilst coaching for the
Spurs Youth Academy. Wayne Russell has now retired
after his knee kept seizing up at the start of last season and
as a result will need an operation. We wish them all the best
and hope that those that can will return to the team
soon.
The team managed to get a gathering of
players and partners for the end of season. Meeting at The
Lyceum public house on the Strand. The end of season awards were
handed out. With Tony Jones winning the players player of the
year award for the second time in three seasons. The runner up
for 2008/09 was Peter Boyce. Golden Boot went once again to
Tyrone Jones for the second season running. With the managers
player of the season going to Richie Patterson. Clubman of the
year is awarded to Geoff Hardy for his help in refereeing for
the lads at short notice and sometimes for nowt in the last few
seasons. Geoff has yet to receive his award though, with work
keeping him busy at this time.
I would like
to thank all those who have played for the branch team and for
those who continue to do so and to those yet to play this
season. Without you we cannot exist. Its always a pleasure to
don the red and white tops and to represent Sunderland by
being Sunderland is nearly as good as it gets to the
real thing. Keep the
Faith.

afternoon. We have a covered 150 seated stand you can use for
free. Bring the family as well. Just let us know you are coming
and I will add your name to the gate entry list (home games and
a fair few of our away games are played at the Police Centre so
