Sports
We are always looking for new players - to improve our competitive edge and also to meet more Sunderland
fans in London socially. Here's how to get involved...
Football The football team finished runners up in Division 1 last
season. We play at the Met Police Peel Centre, Aerodrome Road, NW9 5TW. There will be 16 league games over 40 weeks
next season. Plus at least one cup match and a few pre-season friendlies. The season starts in September and
Captain Mark Hay can be contacted Football@weardownsouth.com
Cricket The cricket team is
actively recruiting London branch members, new or old, with cricketing skills or without. We have 8 fixtures
this season, including weekend tours to Salisbury and Nowton, near Bury St Edmunds. When we’re not inflicting
ourselves on those towns, we play all over London. We’re a very social team and all are welcome. Captain
Matthew Woolston can be e-mailed Cricket@weardownsouth.com or called on 07795251880.
Darts Next season, we
will be playing in the second division of the APFSCIL league, with good prospects, as long as we can keep the
team together, (rumours that transfer fees in excess of 10 pints have been offered for some of our players
are just.....rumours). We usually play on midweek nights in Central London about once a month, our home games
being on Monday nights at The Horseshoe pub in Clerkenwell Close, EC1
games starting about 1930 - 2000. Fixtures will start about mid September, and continue till May/June. I intend
to organise a singles/doubles Branch competition in the late summer., to which all Branch members can enter,
probably in The Horseshoe. We welcome new recruits and anyone wanting any information can contact captain Keith
Adamson, on e-mail at Darts@weardownsouth.com, or phone, day or evening
0207 435 3164.
Pool At the time of
writing this, the pool team are lying at the top of the APFSCIL league with one game (against the mags) to
play. We have had a strong, consistent season and everyone has played their part. We usually play on midweek
evenings around central London, although most of our games take place in the Royal Star, just round the
corner from Old Street station,EC1V 2PN. We’d welcome any new members to our very social team and the best
person to get in touch with is Jim Minton, contactable at Pool@weardownsouth.com
Quiz
The Branch Quiz team competes against other APFSCIL supporters' clubs in football quizzes in and around the Greater
London area and is always on the lookout for new team members. Quiz@weardownsouth.com
