Division 1 Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 2 (0) Bentley Lewis
Sunderland: Cowan, Hedley, Hudgell, Anderson, Daniel, Aitken, Kemp, Wright T, Ford, Watson, Elliott
Attendance: 56,685
Position after match: 19th
A much better performance for the Bank of England team on their second trip to the capital.
Although, to put it mildly, we hadn’t done that well on the road that season, a couple of thumping home wins against Arsenal and cup-holders Blackpool had kept us off the bottom of the table.
Division 2 Brisbane Road
Sunderland 1 (1) Fogarty
Leyton Orient 1 (1) Elwood
Sunderland: Wakeham, Nelson, Ashurst, Anderson, Hurley, McNab, Bircham, Fogarty, Lawther, Taylor, Grainger
Attendance: 16,335
League Position after match: 12th
Five league games without a win in London; although there was some early-season optimism in our second season in Division Two, this quickly evaporated.
The crowd for the return game at Roker, which we lost 4-1, was only 600 higher than that at Brisbane Road.
