For as long as the Branch has existed we’ve been taking part in London leagues across a number of sports. At present we have Pool, Darts and Quiz teams competing in the APFSCIL leagues, as well as offering opportunities to play cricket and football.
These present a great chance for Branch members to get together with other members and (very) occasionally showcase any latent sporting talent they may possess. All of our teams are incredibly sociable and always on the lookout for new members.
The pool, darts and quiz teams tend to have around a dozen fixtures a year, played on midweek evenings throughout the year and surrounded by beer and craic. Their fixtures will often be publicised on the Branch twitter and Facebook accounts.
The cricket team play a number of fixtures across London on summer weekends and embark on two tours, one to Salisbury early season and then to Nowton near Bury St Edmunds over August bank holiday weekend. We are desperate for any new recruits and the ability to play cricket is not a necessity. All kit can be provided.
The Branch has also recently formed a 6-a-side football team playing its games every Tuesday evening at a school just 2 minutes from Clapham Junction. The team is still short of players and we are keen to involve as many people of any ability as possible. Games will kick off at sociable times of 7.00 or 7.45 p.m. and will be followed by drinks.
For any further information, or an interest to play in any of these teams, please contact the Sports’ Captain, Matthew Woolston, on 07795251880 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
As well as arranging meet ups for London away matches and finding pubs to watch TV games in, the Branch occasionally organise social and charity events.
We have a good relationship with Sunderland Football Club which has resulted in regular appearances of the team/management at Branch socials, and have also hosted ex-footballers and book signings.
