As members will be aware our London Branch has sponsored the Sunderland Ladies team since even before they were accepted by the FA into the Women’s Super League. It was therefore with concern that we learned that the football club has decided to reduce its financial support to the team by reverting to part-time playing staff. Competing in the top level will clearly be more difficult as will be the club’s application for a new WSL Licence beyond 2017. We shall be watching how this new arrangement develops as the team prepares for the new Spring Series fixtures which commence on 22nd April. A sad end, we fear, for some of the players who achieved promotion as WSL2 Champions just over two years ago.
